My watercolor paintings are reproduced on durable, clear acrylic ornaments that each measure 4 inches.
The paintings show six scenes from the biblical story of the birth of Jesus:
- The Annunciation: Gabriel appears to Mary
- The Journey: Joseph with Mary, riding a donkey, travel to Bethlehem
- The Nativity: Jesus is born in a stable, surrounded by animals
- Angels appear to shepherds to announce Jesus's birth
- The Magi: wise men bring gifts to baby Jesus
- The Presentation in the Temple
I interpret the scenes in a chinoiserie style, in the tradition of "inculturation," where religious art isn't created as a literal representation of the scene, but is adapted to reflect global traditions and culture, so that everyone might see themselves reflected in the story. Chinoiserie is also a blending of my own two heritages, so it's very personal to me.
