All year, I await my peonies, and when they bloom, I start painting furiously! I've learned a lot from the waiting. The visible reward only comes after all of the growth underground.
In this painting, I paired huge bouquets of peonies from my backyard garden in Maryland with vintage vases, including a blue and white Delft vase that was my grandmother's, and a milk glass vase that I thrifted. The bouquets sit atop a floral patterned cloth; fabric pattern rendering is one of my favorite things to paint because of my love for fabrics (many of which I design myself) and the challenge it presents.
This original acrylic painting on canvas is preserved with a UV-protective varnish. The canvas is 18 x 24 x 1.5 inches. The edges of the canvas are white.
